DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

To become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), you must successfully complete our Nurse Aide/Assistant program, which is specifically designed to prepare you for the New York State Nursing Home Competency Examination (CNA exam).

This program will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to work as an entry-level Nurse Aide/Assistant on healthcare teams across various settings, including nursing homes, residential healthcare facilities, and hospitals.

Our comprehensive course offers a combination of theory and hands-on clinical training, along with an externship at a Residential Health Care Facility (RHCF), giving you real-world experience that is crucial for your job search. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is specifically designed for individuals (both men and women) who are seeking employment as Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) and is highly recommended for anyone considering a career in nursing.

To ensure readiness for practical training, students will need to complete a physical examination before being scheduled for their internship at a nursing home or healthcare facility.

Additionally, in order to work in healthcare settings such as nursing homes and hospitals, students are required to undergo a criminal background check. Please note that a criminal record may impact eligibility for certain placements and employment as a Nurse Aide.

WHAT DOES A CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE / ASSISTANT (CNA) DO?

  • Assist with Daily Living Activities: CNAs provide physical support to patients or residents, helping them with activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Monitor and Document Patient Conditions: They observe, document, and report changes in patient behavior or health status to nursing staff, ensuring timely intervention and care.
  • Nutrition and Hydration Support: CNAs measure and record food and liquid intake to ensure patients meet their nutritional and hydration needs.
  • Maintain Cleanliness and Infection Control: Responsibilities include changing bed linens, cleaning patient areas, and following infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist with Basic Medical Tasks: CNAs may help with tasks like taking vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse) and ensuring patients are comfortable during medical procedures.
